Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop Review

Gone are the days when you’d have to carry a mop in one hand and a bucket in the other. Today, you can indulge in floor care products like steam mops to clean your floors without damaging them.

However, one’s reluctance to buy Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop, a product well over $100, is understandable. That’s why I decided to review this mop. Is it worth the price tag?

Bissell has marketed the steam mop as an ideal solution for pet owners who have hardwood floors in their homes. Being a versatile steam cleaner, the Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop deals with all sorts of messes and has a plethora of tools.

Let’s see how good of a job the PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off does of cleaning floors.

Setup and Installation: No hassle

The PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off is pretty easy to install since it comes pre-assembled. All you have to do is install a screw, and the mop is ready to clean the floors. The mop pad is already installed, so you don’t have to fumble with any attachment.

After that, you have to fill the water tank and wait for 30 seconds for the water to heat. The heating time is optimal, considering most other mops also take as long.

However, filling the tank is more challenging than it should be. It’s possibly the tank’s placement on the central unit that makes it difficult to access and work with. Despite this, the mop is easy to set up, as reported by most reviewers.

Finally, you have to choose the steam setting as per the tile floor or wood surface. Unfortunately, the PowerFresh only steam cleans at high or low settings. It doesn’t have a wide range of steam settings, like some other Bissell mops.

Design: Tricky Storage

The PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off is a two-in-one mop featuring upright functionality for mopping the floors and a handheld steam unit for cleaning overhead surfaces. Thanks to the handheld steam unit, you can use the mop for cleaning narrow spaces and above-floor surfaces like the kitchen countertops.

However, the mop is predominantly white. Thus, it will show signs of wear and tear prominently. The orange coating only extends to a limited portion of the central unit. So, you’ll see scruffs and scratches on the white part with regular use.

Even if you somehow manage to ignore that, the most prominent design flaw is the tricky storage. Quite shockingly, the Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop doesn’t have a storage hook, which is absurd since most low-end mops have this feature too.

As you can’t hang it, you have to make it stand. Unfortunately, as per reviewers, the mop ‘doesn’t stand up on its own.’ Thus, you have to balance it against a wall or keep it stored in a cleaning closet.

Secondly, the Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop doesn’t have a swivel head. Again, it’s a standard feature that you’ll even find in steam mops costing below $50. However, Bissell seems to have focused more on the dual functionality of this product.

Lastly, the mop is pretty heavy at ten pounds. Luckily, you can use it as a handheld steam unit. You won’t have to carry the excess weight for above-floor cleaning.

Besides, the design isn’t that much of a disaster, either. The 25-feet long power cord allows you to clean the whole room without having to replug the steam mop elsewhere.

Performance: A Versatile Mop

While the Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop may have disappointed in the design department, it exceeds expectations in terms of performance. To start, you have to fill the water tank, which gets ready for use in just 30 seconds.

The mop features a scrubbing brush that easily breaks stickier messes while the mop head cleans pet hair, dirt, and grime.

Since the cleaning pads stretch to cover the mop head, they’re easy to put on and remove. Also, you can toss them in the washing machine for a quick clean. They dry up quickly, getting ready for subsequent use.

While most other mops only have a single function, the Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop is quite versatile. You can detach the main body from the handle, using the handheld version to clean furniture and kitchen appliances.

Arguably, the best part about the Bissell PowerFresh Pet Lift-Off Steam Mop is its attachments. With thirteen tools for cleaning, you’re spoilt for choice. The most notable accessory is the garment steamer, giving a versatile usage to this steam cleaner.

You can use it to clean furniture and attach the fragrance discs to freshen up your sofas and carpets. Since the fragrance discs have a mild scent, they’re safe for homes with allergy-sufferers too.

The steam mop’s above-floor cleaning finesse is hard to ignore. One of the reviewers said she uses it for her stove because ‘it blasts through grease and grime’ better than any other mop. Also, it’s great at cleaning grout and grime stuck to your floors.

Moreover, it eliminates 99.9% of germs and bacteria from your home naturally. You don’t have to use a harsh cleaner or a disinfectant as the product uses the power of steam.

Durability: Not dependable

Looking at the price tag, you’d expect the PowerFresh to last for years. However, most reviewers reported flaky durability. While some people felt that the handle is prone to easy breakage, others weren’t too sure about the central unit’s resistance against wear and tear.

Don’t get me wrong, though. Dropping the handle a couple of times won’t make the mop head stop working altogether. But if you use it regularly, don’t expect it to last a lifetime.

Attachments: Plenty of Options

One of the best things about this product is the number of easy to use attachments it comes with. First off, there’s a grout brush that helps remove long-stuck grime from kitchen and bathroom grout.

Secondly, there’s a Bristle scrub brush to clean around sinks, stovetops, oven, and countertops. You can also use it to clean inside the microwave.

The extension hose helps you clean messes from hard-to-reach areas that are often left unnoticed. Most importantly, the fabric steamer helps clean upholstery, couches, and beds. Thanks to the fragrance discs, every fabric in your home smell better too.

Then, there’s a flat scraping tool to remove stuck-on food particles from your pets’ bowls. Also, it cleans pet hair and sticky messes from their toys, beds, and other things. The window squeegee is a godsend for cleaning dirty windows without putting in any elbow grease.

Lastly, the angle tool can be used to sanitize and clean pet toys, carriers, and food bowls.

Price: High but justified

Without a doubt, the Bissell steam mop is one of the priciest options in the market, but the cost is justified. Although you have to pay a high upfront cost, you get the functionality of multiple tools in one device.

At the end of the day, the PowerFresh isn’t just an upright steam mop. It’s also a handheld unit, a garment steamer, and a grout cleaner. If you have enough money saved up, I’d suggest getting this steam mop to replace the older cleaning tools.

Competition: Bissell takes the lead

Shark Steam Pocket Mop Hard Floor Cleaner with Swivel Steering

Bissel’s PowerFresh’s apparent competition is the Shark Steam Pocket Mop Hard Floor Cleaner with Swivel Steering, which is made for a similar job. The Shark Steam Mop is suitable for hardwood floors, like the PowerFresh, and offers cleaning plus sanitization.

However, it boasts a swivel steering mop head, which is lacking in the PowerFresh. Plus, there’s a noticeable difference in price.

Apart from that, the Shark Steam, with easy installation and a long power cord, is quite similar to the PowerFresh. However, it lacks most of PowerFresh’s accessories, making it come second in place in the run for the most versatile steam mop.

If you’re on a budget, opt for the Shark Pocket. But if you want versatility with satisfying performance, consider raising your budget to buy the Bissell PowerFresh steam mop.
